Travel to the Isle of Bute, approximately 60 km away. Drive to Wemyss Bay, catch the ferry to Rothesay. The Isle of Bute may be underrated, but it is compact and offers a diverse range of landscapes.
Day 3
Today, consider exploring the Isle of Bute by e-bike (optional extra). The 23-mile loop will take you around the entire island, offering views of the Kyles of Bute, Arran, and beyond. For a shorter ride, try the loop from Rothesay to Kingarth, visit Mount Stuart, an extravagant 19th-century mansion.
Day 4
1 Night in Loch Lomond
Travel north to the Loch Lomond area, approximately 80 km away. Take the ferry from Rhubodach to Colintraive; tickets cannot be pre-booked as it operates on a 'turn up and go' basis. Continue driving towards Arrochar, and consider a brief detour to Inveraray, a charming town on the western shore of Loch Fyne. Visit Inveraray Castle, the private residence of the Clan Campbell.
Day 5 - Oban
2 Nights in the Oban area
Travel to Oban, approximately 100 km away. Oban, a lively harbor town on Scotland's West Coast, awaits. Choose the scenic but busier route via Glencoe, offering breathtaking views, or opt for the quieter path through Tyndrum and Lochawe stopping at Kilchurn Castle, a picturesque castle ruin situated on a small peninsula.
Day 6
Today, embark on a day trip to the Isle of Mull, Iona, and Staffa. This tour of the three islands promises an unforgettable experience, showcasing the breathtaking landscapes of the Isle of Mull, exploring the ancient history of Iona, and visiting the remarkable Isle of Staffa to see the geological marvel of Fingal's Cave. Board the ferry in Oban to the Isle of Mull, where a coach and English-speaking guide will be waiting to welcome you.
Day 7
1 Night in the Ayr/Ardrossan area.
Travel to the Ayr area via the Isle of Arran, approximately 200 km away. Begin your day early and drive south to Claonaig, catch the ferry to Lochranza on the Isle of Arran. As with Bute, tickets for this ferry cannot be pre-booked, as it operates on a 'turn up and go' basis. Spend the day exploring the Isle of Arran, often described as Scotland in miniature, with its stunning coastline, highlands, distilleries, and historic sites such as Brodick Castle.
