Umhlanga holidays
A spectacular coastal town on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast, Umhlanga is a popular holiday destination for families, couples and friends. It’s close enough to Durban to enjoy the city’s numerous attractions but far away enough to retain its small-town charm. Luxury hotels and resorts abound here, including the famous Oyster Box Hotel (see our brilliant Oyster Box Hotel packages below), one of the Leading Hotels of the World and a favourite destination for couples and honeymooners.
Things to do in Umhlanga are varied and will keep the whole family entertained on holiday. There is lively evening entertainment on offer and plenty of things for kids too, especially at Gateway Theatre of Shopping. Plus, the town offers excellent restaurants to enjoy, whether you’re looking for a superb seafood meal or just want to have coffee and cake.

When is the best time to visit?  Â
- The summer peak season falls over the December school holidays, when the weather hot and humid. Expect crowded beaches during this time – as well as a buzzing end-of-year vibe.
- If you’d rather skip the crowds for a quieter holiday, head to Umhlanga between April to September, in the winter months, when the temperature is still warm but mild.
Getting there & getting around

What must I pack?
- Be ready for beach weather! Summer is hot and humid, so be sure to pack in lightweight clothing to wear over your swimsuit. Winter weather is mild – a few warm layers to wear in the cooler evenings should do the trick.
- Do not leave home without your sunscreen, sun hat and sunnies.
- If you’re planning to enjoy some nightly entertainment or dine out at high-end restaurants, be sure to pack clothing according to the dress code.
