- The flight duration from Johannesburg to Dublin with one stopover: 13 hours, 50 minutes.
Do I need a visa?
- South African passport holders currently do not require a visa to enter Ireland.
- However, if you are a South African and also visiting Great Britain, you will require a UK visa. If you are visiting Europe as part of your trip, you will then require a Schengen visa.
- Passports should be valid for at least 6 months after travel and have blank pages.
What time is it?
- Ireland is on Western European Time, which is the same time as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). During the winter months, Ireland is 2 hours behind South Africa and in the summer (last Sunday in March to the last Saturday in October) 1 hour behind South Africa.

- The official currency is the Euro (€ or EUR).
- Credit cards are widely accepted and ATMs are prevalent.
- Some small establishments may not accept cards or have a minimum spend, so always check before making a purchase.
- Tipping is an accepted custom.

- Avoid single-use plastic; rather take fabric shopping bags with you and use refillable water bottles (when local drinking water is available).

Safety tips
- Always have a map (or app) on hand, especially when travelling at night.
- Be safety conscious: don’t display cash or valuables. Leave jewellery and expensive watches at home.
