Best Time to visit Thailand

Thailand is known for its rich culture, delectable cuisine, stunning scenery and friendly people. If you are planning a trip to Thailand, there is no better time than now! With so many wonderful things to see and do in the Land of Smiles, it can be hard to decide when is the best time of year to visit Thailand? We will explore the ideal times of the year (months or seasons) to go on holiday in Thailand, as well as some fun festivals and events that you won’t want to miss!

The “Cool” Season (November - March)

The cool season in Thailand occurs between November and March and is characterised by low humidity levels and pleasant temperatures throughout. During these months, temperatures rarely exceed 30°C, making it ideal for sightseeing in Bangkok or exploring the ancient temples of Ayutthaya without breaking a sweat. Plus, if you’re looking for an outdoor adventure, then now is the perfect time for trekking through hill tribes in Chiang Mai or visiting Khao Yai National Park.

If you happen to be in Bangkok around 10 December, don’t miss out on the Loi Krathong Festival – a unique celebration that includes floating lanterns and firework displays. The Chinese New Year and Makha Bucha Day is also celebrated during this season.

Fun reasons to go: explore historic sites comfortably and take advantage of accommodation prices – they tend to be lower during this time.

The Hot Season (April - June)

The hot season might not sound like the most appealing time of year to visit Thailand but with temperatures reaching up to 35°C it’s the ideal option for beachgoers looking for some sun. If you plan your trip right then you may also get a chance to witness Songkran – the national water festival celebrated between 13 and 15 April which involves throwing buckets of water at passersby! The hot season also marks an increase in hotel prices so if you want to save some money while still enjoying all that Thailand has to offer then this could be the perfect time for you.

Fun reason to go: soak up some sun while experiencing a special festival!

Rainy Season (June - October)

It’s no surprise that during rainy season there will be periods of heavy rain but this doesn’t mean that your entire holiday will be ruined! The showers tend to come in short bursts during this period so if you’re lucky, they might not disrupt your plans at all. Plus, during these months many hotels offer discounted rates due to lower occupancy rates so why not take advantage of these savings? Just make sure that you bring appropriate clothing such as ponchos and umbrellas as raincoats are essential when travelling during this period.

Fun reasons to go: the discounted hotel rates! This is also a great time for foodies who want to sample delicious street food without having to worry about getting too hot or sweaty while doing so. Plus, there are plenty of fun festivals taking place during this period such as Loi Krathong (the floating lantern festival which typically falls in November), Asanha Puja Day (Buddhist Lent Day) and Ok Phansa (the end of Buddhist Lent).
