A spectacular coastal town on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast, Umhlanga is a popular holiday destination for families, couples and friends. It’s close enough to Durban to enjoy the city’s numerous attractions but far away enough to retain its small-town charm. Luxury hotels and resorts abound here, including the famous Oyster Box Hotel (see our brilliant Oyster Box Hotel packages below), one of the Leading Hotels of the World and a favourite destination for couples and honeymooners.
Things to do in Umhlanga are varied and will keep the whole family entertained on holiday. There is lively evening entertainment on offer and plenty of things for kids too, especially at Gateway Theatre of Shopping. Plus, the town offers excellent restaurants to enjoy, whether you’re looking for a superb seafood meal or just want to have coffee and cake.

What must I pack?
Be ready for beach weather! Summer is hot and humid, so be sure to pack in lightweight clothing to wear over your swimsuit. Winter weather is mild – a few warm layers to wear in the cooler evenings should do the trick.
Do not leave home without your sunscreen, sun hat and sunnies.
If you’re planning to enjoy some nightly entertainment or dine out at high-end restaurants, be sure to pack clothing according to the dress code.
Don’t forget your personal musts: prescription medication, devices and chargers, a mini first aid kit, and whatever else you always take with on your travels.
Hand sanitiser and insect repellent are always handy when you need them!
Do not attract attention by openly displaying cash, expensive jewellery, cameras and other valuables.
Plan your travel routes beforehand.
Tag your luggage and belongings for easy identification and contact procedures.
