A Journey Through KAZA: Cameron Charlie's FAM Trip Adventure

We’re thrilled to share more about this remarkable opportunity that Cameron Charlie, one of our agents, recently experienced — an unforgettable journey through the Kavango Zambezi Trans-frontier Conservation Area (KAZA TFCA).

Cameron's trip proved to be an extraordinary experience, brimming with meaningful encounters alongside fellow agents, dedicated service providers, and esteemed hoteliers from diverse corners of the globe.

I’m Cameron Charlie and, as a representative of Thompson's Holidays, I was thrilled to be the only outbound tour operator from Johannesburg on this adventure. Our objective with this trip was to better understand and experience the ease of travel in the TFCA region, something our itinerary admirably displayed.

Discovering the Diversity of KAZA

The expedition kicked off in Botswana, where the welcoming officials and top-notch transport partners ensured a smooth start. Our base, Chobe Mopani Forest Lodge, nestled in the Kazuma Forest, offered a unique 3-star experience. A very new lodge, with some way to go before completion, this family-owned property impressed us with its commitment to hospitality and progressive solar power initiatives, leaving a favourable lasting impression.

Our next location was the Cresta Mowana Safari Lodge and Spa, set alongside the Chobe River; the vast property provided a resort-style haven. Explore the Chobe region through boat cruises and game drives showcases the area's potential, though we felt the tourism regulating board could enhance the park experience.

Namibia unveiled its hidden gems in the Zambezi Region, featuring Caprivi Motoya Lodge's rustic charm and the serene Kasile Island Lodge on the banks of the Kwando River. The latter, a true hidden gem, not only offered spectacular views but also actively engaged in a commendable sustainable project with the local community.

Zimbabwe: Beyond the Majestic Victoria Falls

Zimbabwe, with its professional and friendly ambience, hosted us at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge. Exploring properties like Elephant Hills Resort, Victoria Falls Hotel, and Shearwater Explorers Village provided insights into the diverse offerings in this region.

Looking rejuvenated, the Elephant Hills Resort showcased the high standard of accommodation. The renowned Victoria Falls Hotel, a blend of modern and colonial aesthetics, is positioning itself to cater to various markets. Our exploration led us to Shearwater Explorers Village, which was bustling with activity. Home to the open-air Ndlovu Theatre, as well as plenty of shops and stalls, the village was extremely busy during my visit.

Exploring Zambia's Tranquil Side

Crossing over to Zambia, Radisson Blue Mosi-Oa-Tunya stood out as a world-class resort. With its unique amenities and serene location along the Zambezi River, it presented a different perspective of Victoria Falls.

Radisson Blu Mosi-Oa-Tunya, a true gem, showcased world-class amenities but raised concerns about service efficiency during peak times.

Unveiling the Heart of KAZA

Our itinerary included visits to various conservation projects, including the Victoria Falls Wildlife Trust in Zimbabwe and the CATS project in Livingstone, Zambia. These experiences explored the intricate balance between wildlife, communities, and conservation efforts.

As we concluded the trip, providing feedback to the KAZA Tourism Board highlighted the immense potential in the region.

This journey has been eye-opening, and I'm eager to share these experiences with you. We look forward to helping you experience similar adventures in the TFCA, to explore the wonders of KAZA. Stay tuned as I work on crafting bespoke packages that capture the essence of this remarkable region.
