The Blue Train - Pretoria to Cape Town
Double beds cannot be guaranteed due to limited availability.
The route between Pretoria and Cape Town is a 27-hour journey of 1 600 kilometers (994 miles), through some of the most diverse and spectacular scenery offered by the African sub-continent. On the Southbound trip, the train departs from Pretoria main train station at 8:30 and arrives in Cape Town train station at 12:00 the following day. En route to Cape Town there is a stopover and excursion in Kimberley, where we take a step back in time to the days of the diamond rush. Please note that there are no parking facilities available at Pretoria Station. Kindly make transfer arrangements. Remember, dinner is an elegant affair and men are requested to wear a jacket and tie and ladies in elegant evening wear. Inclusive of accommodation on The Blue Train, snacks, all applicable meals, drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), Cognacs, Cuban Cigars and Blue Train gift. Excludes French Champagne, Caviar, external telephone calls and any other fees applicable at Sun City. Lunch, breakfast and dinner are based on The Blue Train's standard menu. On confirmation, please advise of any other special dietary requirements. Please note that a delivery / collection fee of approximate R600 will be applicable for any car rentals that might be picked up or dropped off at Durban Station. This fee will be settled directly.
Some areas The Blue Train traverses reach temperatures ranging between -5 to -10 degrees Celsius. These conditions adversely affect the railway lines and as a cautionary & safety measure a speed restriction is in place and the off-train excursion at Kimberly might not be offered. Every effort will however be made available to ensure that the guests enjoy their stay. Please expect an estimated delay by approximately 3 hours longer than the mentioned arrival time.
Itinerary - Pretoria to Cape Town Route
06h30 - 07h30: Register and check-in at The Blue Train Lounge, Pretoria Station. Guests enjoy pre-departure snacks and drinks.
07h30: Boarding starts Butlers usher guests to their suites. Suite orientation done by butlers.
08h30: The Blue Train departs from Pretoria Station.
10h30 - 12h00: First sitting for Brunch.
12h30 - 14h00: Second sitting for Brunch.
15h30: High Tea is served in the Lounge Car.
17h10: The Blue Train arrives at Kimberley Station. Guests disembark and assemble at the railway museum, from where they will be ushered to a bus, which transfers them to the Kimberley Open Mine Museum.
17h30: Guests arrive at the Open Mine Museum for a tour of the mine. Guests are first taken to view interesting and historical sites. Guests are also taken onto an enclosed ramp on the edge of the Kimberley Hole.
18h35: Guests depart from the Open Mine Museum for Kimberley Station. At Kimberley Station guests are greeted with a glass of sherry. The sherry glass engraved with The Blue Train logo is a memento for guests to keep.
19h10: The Blue Train departs Kimberley Station for the journey southbound to Cape Town. After this exciting tour, guests are free to refresh themselves and enjoy pre-dinner drinks served at any one of our lounges. (Remember, dinner is an elegant affair and men are requested to wear a Jacket and ties and ladies elegant evening wear).
19h30 - 21h00: First sitting dinner.
21h15: Second sitting dinner.
Guests enjoy post-dinner drinks, Cognacs and Cuban cigars in the Club car before retiring to bed.
07h00 - 10h00: Breakfast is served on a first come first serve basis. Breakfast can also be served in-suite at guest's request.
12h00 - 14h45: Three-course lunch served at leisure (first come first served).
15h00: The Blue Train arrives at Cape Town Station. Butlers usher guests to The Blue Train Lounge.

Please note that there are no safe parking facilities available at Pretoria Station. We recommend transfer arrangements.
We strongly urge clients to adequately cover for any eventualities with their insurance agent. We recommend that clients purchase trip cancellation insurance to cover themselves in the unlikely event of a late cancellation or loss that may occur due to unforeseen events.
No pets are allowed on The Blue Train.
It is advisable to pack an overnight bag for the journey, as only a limited amount of luggage can be stored in the suite. Butlers will store additional luggage in the Luggage Car. Luggage/baggage stored in the Luggage Car is limited to 50kg per guest.
Although great care will be taken to safeguard luggage and other belongings, it is recommended that luggage be insured and securely locked.
All luggage/baggage will be subjected to security check and scanning prior to boarding.
The guests should at all times have their valuables securely locked away/packaged or within easy reach.
For safety reasons no guest is allowed to bring dangerous goods such as firearms, flammable substances, fireworks, poisonous or toxic substances on board The Blue Train unless special arrangements have been made prior to departure, and written permission of such arrangement has been obtained by the guest from The Blue Train management.
